Boot camp
I've been whining for months about wanting to get back in shape, but I've been too lazy to do anything about it. Until last week.
My husband talked me into signing up for a physical fitness boot camp thing. It starts at 6 a.m. and lasts for an hour. Amazingly, there are several people in the class who have done it before and only about four of us are newbies.
The first day - we weighed in (ugh!) and got measured (double ugh!) then we were timed as we ran/walked a mile. I've never been a runner and haven't done a mile since I was in junior high. Can you guess how horrible my time was? Yeah - it was that bad. After the mile, we were timed for sit-ups and push-ups. Real push-ups, not the modified girly push-ups. I came home totally disgusted with myself, but it's also given me some idea of how hard I need to work to get back into shape.
I decided to set some beginner goals for myself:
1. Run a mile without walking/stopping and do it in under 10 minutes
2. Increase the number of push-ups and sit-ups to 50 or more
Those are my beginner goals. Once I reach those - I have additional goals in mind, but I'm going to take things one step at a time. And try hard to not complain about sore muscles along the way. I forgot to mention that part - the first four days were OMG I AM DYING because I was so sore. Yeah - it was that bad.
Luckily, I have a cheering section that consists of my husband and my kids. They have been going with me to run/walk on the days I don't have class. They also remind me to put down the Diet Pepsi and drink water instead. *sigh*

Just plain weird
Yes - I've been terrible about NOT posting anything for the past month. We've been busy with other projects and I've gotten lazy.
But anyway - this comes from the realm of the completely bizarre...
I'm not saying the man is a pedophile - but he's certainly got all the accessories! Or maybe it's like the movie BIG (remember - with Tom Hanks) and he's really a 12 year old trapped in an adult body.
Seriously - I lost count of the number of garden statues that were children. Is that NORMAL? I don't really know any men who are into yard art to begin with, but if they were - I'm pretty sure the statues would be half naked women and NOT children. Creepy.
Don't forget the extensive collection of arcade games. It's like a Chucky Cheese on steriods. Again - Creepy.
So now that I'm thoroughly creeped out - I think I'll go back to thinking about happier things. Like root canals or something.

The Monday After
So - the game was great! Lots of surprises and what a last minute win! Not the team I wanted to win - but that's ok.
On the other hand, the commercials were NOT so great. My favorite was the Pedigree commercial:

There were a few others that I laughed at, but nothing that REALLY impressed me. And honestly - I wish the NFL would WAKE UP and move the Superbowl to Saturday or at least to noon on Sunday. Someone should tell them about lost production time at work and all the cranky kids in school... but anyway - early to bed tonight. And congrats to the Steelers and their fans. It was an exciting game!

Snow Days
We are on our second Snow Day here. It's really pretty, but now I'm getting stir crazy and want to go to the store. My grocery list is short - but hey - any excuse to go play in the snow is a good one!
I sent Caleb out to shovel the driveway this morning. Then I felt bad and so I went out and helped too. We did a pretty good job between the two of us. The driveway itself is wide enough for two cars to park side by side. We managed to get one and a half lanes cleared. I have a feeling I will be sore later, but it felt good to work up a sweat and do some physical labor.
In the meantime, here is a view out my front door this morning:

And here's my cat - discovering the Triops:

He is completely fascinated with them and meows to them constantly. I have to wonder how many times he will paw at the container - after about 15 times you would think he would figure out that he can't get to them. But he keeps trying. And trying. And trying.

I'm old now
Ok - I'm now another year older, but I'm not supposed to be feeling it already!
I just spent my evening playing 3 games of Guess Who?, 1 game of Clue, 1 game of Life, and 2 games of Sequence with my daughter. We also changed the water for her Triops that we hatched. (Those things are really cool, but kinda creepy too.) Anyway - I think I must have spent too much time hovering over the game boards or something because OUCH! My back is not happy with me right now. Geez - I must be WAY out of shape. Or can I still blame it on the flu??? Ok, maybe not but it was worth a shot!
I honestly wasn't ignoring my son - he was at the neighbor's house. We are all hoping for a snow day tomorrow. If the forecast holds true, then chances are good. But I don't want to get hopes up too much, so I kept bedtime within a half hour of normal. Now it's time for me to go to bed too (so I can stretch out my back) and so I can be cozy under the covers while watching the snow.
And while I'm cozy, Jim will be working until 11 p.m. - so say prayers for all the public servants who don't get snow days. They deserve gratitude, but usually get complaints instead.
